Theater Days in Abu Dhabi Is Bringing Bolshoi and Mariinsky to the Palace

Abu Dhabi has quietly become one of the region’s most serious addresses for the performing arts, and Theater Days in Abu Dhabi is the platform making that case with intention. The curated series brings together leading choreographers, dancers, and theater-makers for a limited run of performances staged at some of the UAE’s most prestigious venues. This edition centers on “The Train Arrives In…”, a contemporary dance drama that takes Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina as its departure point and transforms it into something entirely its own.
The production does not attempt a literal retelling. Instead, it turns inward, placing Anna’s internal conflict at the heart of the work. The emotional tension between passion and duty, between love and motherhood, is rendered entirely through movement, visual theater, and a deliberately minimalist scenography. Presented in an intimate chamber format, the performance strips away spectacle in favor of psychological precision, where choreography becomes the primary language of human complexity.
The artists bringing this vision to life carry considerable weight. Vladislav Lantratov is a Principal Dancer of the Bolshoi Theater, one of the most storied institutions in the history of classical dance. His partner on stage, Daria Pavlenko, is a former Prima Ballerina of the Mariinsky Theater and a guest artist at Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, the company that defined an era of contemporary movement. Together they bring a refined and emotionally layered interpretation of one of literature’s most enduring and most complex female figures.
The performance takes place on Wednesday, April 29, at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi. Doors open at 19:00 and the performance begins at 20:00. Tickets start from AED 175 and are available via Platinumlist. Guests are advised to arrive early.
Theater Days in Abu Dhabi positions the city not as a stop on a global tour but as a cultural meeting point in its own right, a destination where premieres, exclusive engagements, and internationally recognised productions find a natural home. “The Train Arrives In…” is a fitting emblem of that ambition: intimate in scale, vast in emotional reach, and performed by two artists at the very top of their craft.
