NASA and The UAE Collaborate to Orbit The Moon

The UAE has not only captured global attention on Earth but is now set to make a mark in space. NASA, in collaboration with the Mohamed Bin Rashid Space Centre, has announced the provision of an airlock for Gateway—the first-ever space station to orbit the moon.

MBRSC will play a crucial role by supplying Gateway’s crew and Science Airlock module, along with a UAE astronaut scheduled for a future Artemis mission to the lunar space station. Additionally, the center will offer ongoing engineering support for the entirety of the lunar space station’s operational life.

Under the Artemis program, a diverse coalition of nations, including the United States and the United Arab Emirates, is creating history in collaborative space exploration. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson expressed, “The United States and the United Arab Emirates are marking a historic moment in our nations’ collaboration in space and the future of human space exploration.

Gateway’s purpose extends to supporting prolonged exploration and research in deep space, serving as a habitat for astronauts to live and work, and facilitating spacewalks while in orbit around the moon.
