2024’s Oscars’ Lineup of Nominated Arab Films

Only one of the most globally prestigious nights, recognizing cinematic masterpieces from all around the world, The Oscars, is taking place this year with a diverse lineup of nominees and a notable spotlight on Arab films. Elevating the celebration of Middle Eastern cinema, four remarkable films stand poised for the glorious award. The Red Sea Film Festival and El Gouna Film Festival have played pivotal roles in amplifying these cinematic voices, creating a higher exposure of those Middle Eastern works to the rest of the world.

The movies nominated are Tunisian film Four Daughters by Kaouther Ben Hania for both categories Documentary Feature and International Feature and Last Song from Kabul, a viscerally touching documentary, nominated for the Documentary Short Subject category.

Moroccan film, The Mother of All Lies, by Asmae El Moudir is also nominated, after the director has won the Un Certain Regard award for Best Director. Lastly, the Saudi Arabian comedy drama, Alhamour H.A, by Abdulelah Alqurashi has also been shortlisted to win an award this year.
