Creative Director of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri, unveils Dior’s Fall-Winter 2023-2024 Ready-to-Wear collection at the Garden des Tuileries in Paris. In her collections, Chiuri seizes the opportunity to reflect on clothing in relationship to the body and to fashion. In this collection, pieces celebrate Chiuri’s holistic appreciation and understanding of the house’s heritage, history, and essence all under Dior’s imprimatur.

The show was a reinterpretation of the 1950s in an ode to three extraordinary figures: Catherine Dior, Édith Piaf, and Juliette Gréco. The three women shared an independent spirit that guided their choices and subversively contrasted feminine stereotypes that were part of the post-war mindset.

To sense the spirit of each icon, we must address the impeccable show space. Designed by the Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, the set piece titled Valkyrie Miss Dior was created as a tribute to Catherine Dior’s passion for flowers and choice to sell and grow flowers as a message of hope. The enormous piece was made of floral fabrics, lace, and embroidery and set an enigmatic yet soothing atmosphere that beautifully accentuated the clothes.

One by one, the impeccable attires appeared on the runway to the voices of Édith Piaf and Juliette Gréco in the soundtrack of Gréco and Piaf’s cult sounds, including the magical, Non, je ne regrette rien by Piaf.

The collection is the very signature of a femininity that chooses to be free, passionate, and rebellious. Strong and romantic. Many of the show’s looks were a revisited creation of Monsieur Dior’s chosen motifs of florals and primary colors from ruby and emerald to yellow, and blue. The collection stridently celebrates French fashion by creating pieces that feature a map of Paris as a motif with an inclusion of denim and leather jackets, a sheer skirt, flamboyant dresses, and timeless coats.
