Sharp, well-tailored and nostalgic are few words that can be used to describe Anthony Vaccarello’s SS23 collection for Saint Laurent. Aiming to freeze and immortalize a significant moment in time, the collection borrows its main design narrative from Lamentation, a 1930 Martha Graham choreography. A firm believer in the significant importance of this emblematic specimen of pop culture, the designer puts the tubular sheath worn by Graham at the epicenter of this edgy collection. Designed with the radical Saint Laurent woman in mind, the collection’s 49 looks also reimagine one of Yves’ favorite silhouettes, the hooded capuche. Strutting with potency, the models embodied the creative director’s idea of bold demeanor and unforgettable presence.

With Paris serving as the backdrop for this bold collection, fluidity is undoubtedly the collection’s not-so-secret winning component. Creating a hunting juxtapose between the ease and elegance of the silk jersey knits as well as the floor-length dresses on one hand and the masculine exaggerated shoulders on the other hand, the summer creations served as a textbook definition of Saint Laurent by Vaccarello. Far from shying away from nontraditional summer fabrics, the runway saw a few wool coats and leather bombers. Additionally, the color palette did not veer away from the French Maison’s appreciation of lowkey timelessness. Championing the powerful significance of black, the collection espoused female vigor with bare yet concealed legs as well as sheer fabrics. As for the styling, the looks showed great appreciation of effortless style as evident in the contemporary monochromatic approach, which was paired with statement jewelry.

The stunning Kate Moss, Zoë Kravitz, Hailey Bieber, and fashion star Carla Bruni were among the front-row stars that got to experience Vaccarello’s fine-drawn creations for the new season.
