The evening presented an exclusive showcase of the brand’s fine dining and culinary-focused collections, followed by an intimate dining experience featuring a collaboration between Egyptian culinary mastermind Chef Karim Abdel Rahman and W Dubai’s own Chef Necati Gumus. Together, they explored how the design of a plate can inspire culinary creation. Scheduled within a landmark celebratory week for the region’s gastronomic community, the showcase positioned the brand’s legacy firmly within the global conversation of culinary excellence.

Orchestrated by WHEN WE EAT, the event moved beyond a traditional product display, presenting Fathy Mahmoud’s collections as designed instruments of hospitality. By placing these tools directly into the hands of world-class chefs, the evening allowed guests to witness the products in action, marking the brand’s evolution from a local staple to an inevitable force on the gastronomic stage.

The showcase began with an immersive installation that treated the plates not as decorative backdrops, but as technical foundations. Elevated on pedestals and accompanied by design blueprints, the same selection of plates later used for dinner were presented as engineered instruments—with weight, depth, heat behavior, and intention—rather than as sculptural compositions. This analytical gallery—minimal, disciplined, and precise—invited observation rather than spectacle, and understanding rather than interpretation, portraying Fathy Mahmoud’s work as the silent discipline that dictates the success of a service.

The evening culminated in a curated multi-course dining experience led by Chef Karim Abdel Rahman and Chef Necati Gumus. Moving beyond standard composition, the chefs designed a menu highlighting eight foundational pillars of tableware design. Each course drew from the brand’s most iconic forms, from the organic fluidity of the Reef Collection to the disciplined craftsmanship of the legacy Ring Gold series. The result demonstrated how plate design guides a chef’s creative process and elevates the guest’s experience even before the first bite.

The Layering course featured fresh, locally sourced Dibba Bay oysters paired with an Egyptian “Whiskey” salad dressing and herb oil—an elegant marriage of Emirati and Egyptian flavors. The oyster shell and the porcelain plate echoed one another as vessels shaped by time, pressure, and fluid movement.

For Contrast, exclusively sourced Egyptian red shrimp was paired with a vibrant hibiscus rose-water sauce, fresh crab remoulade, and dill oil. Bright colors popped against the white porcelain, while layered textures unfolded beneath the softness of the poached shrimp—its raw salinity meeting the sour, almost bitter notes of hibiscus in a dynamic resonance on the palate.

The concept of Rhythm utilized a “Kebab and Kofta” progression to represent the layered, interactive flow of Egyptian and Arab dining traditions. Familiar flavors—such as Eggplant and Tomato Confit Mille-feuille and Tahini Purée—were reinterpreted with wit and precision, creating a dialogue between heritage and innovation.

The experience concluded with Legacy: a classic Fathy Mahmoud Ring Gold plate carrying an Apple Tarte Tatin. Its seemingly simple combination of flavors demands mastery—just as the white porcelain plate with its refined gold rim requires years of skill and knowledge to produce impeccably. It is this foundation of craftsmanship that continues to shape the brand’s future explorations.
