Music Box, a landmark exhibition presented by Digitent World, opens its doors this May 8–18 at The Factory, 6 Nabarawy Street, as part of this year’s Cairo Photo Week. Blending sound, memory, and visual storytelling, Music Box is an immersive journey through the Middle East’s vibrant musical legacy—one that has influenced not just regional culture, but the global sonic landscape.

For most of us, growing up meant hearing music from all over the world. And while those sounds shaped us, somewhere along the way, we stopped noticing how powerful our sound has always been. Music Box is a reminder.

This multi-sensory exhibition chronicles the evolution of Middle Eastern music from the 1920s to today. Visitors will walk through decade-dedicated rooms—each alive with archival materials, interactive installations, visuals, and original recordings that explore the intersections of music with cinema, culture, and collective memory.

“Music doesn’t just entertain—it archives,” says the Digitent curation team. “It shapes identity, preserves emotion, and traces time. This isn’t about looking back with nostalgia. It’s about honoring a living, breathing record of who we are.”

The exhibition exclusively features archives from the Middle East, focusing on the region’s impact on global music—from sampled melodies and ancient scales to the instrumentation that has traveled across continents. This exhibition also introduces a one of a kind private immersive experience celebrating the launch of Marwan Moussa’s latest album The Man Who Lost His Heart, for fans to experience the music through a different lens. In addition, Mazzika provides the exhibition with never before seen archival music footage. As an immersive space, Music Box invites visitors to not only remember, but re-listen—with clarity, curiosity, and pride.
